Holzhof has chosen PEFC certification as a symbol of eco-sustainability, a valuable tool for all companies that work with wood and wish to know and trace the path of raw materials, from origin to finished product.

Today, in fact, consumers are more aware, informed and careful in the choice and purchase phase, and show growing responsibility and demanding attention towards environmental issues.

PEFC certification guarantees that wood comes from forests managed in a sustainable and responsible way, and that it is traceable throughout all processing phases, up to commercialization. Only if this chain of custody is respected, will the consumer find the appropriate quality mark on the finished product."Forest management certification" means a recognized and tested verification procedure that leads to the issuance, by an independent body, of a certificate that attests that forms of forest management meet certain "sustainability" requirements. A fundamental problem in the application of eco-certification systems consists precisely in the definition of criteria and indicators of "sustainable forest management", i.e. quantitative and qualitative parameters that allow periodic evaluation of environmental performance and sustainability of forest management systems. Specifically, PEFC certification guarantees "the management and use of forests and forest land in forms and at a rate of use such as to allow maintaining their biodiversity, productivity, renewal capacity, vitality and a potential capable of guaranteeing now and in the future important ecological, economic and social functions at local, national and global level and that does not cause damage to other ecosystems".

THE CRITERIA ON WHICH PEFC CERTIFICATION IS BASED:

• Maintenance and appropriate development of forest resources and their contribution to the global carbon cycle;
• Maintenance of the health and vitality of the forest ecosystem;
• Maintenance and promotion of the productive functions of forests (wood and non-wood products);
• Maintenance, conservation and adequate development of biological diversity in forest ecosystems;
• Maintenance and adequate development of protective functions in forest management (particularly soil and water);
• Maintenance of other socio-economic functions and conditions.

Holzhof sells, upon request, products made with PEFC certified timber.
